J Wij hebben altijd gedacht dat Siam en In
donesië de grootste rijstproducenten ter wereld
waren. Sinds wij in Amerika wonen, weten wij
dat ook de U.S. een geweldige ri jstproducent
geworden is. Hetzelfde is het geval met onze
"kedelee", de soyaboon. Uit ondervolgend
bericht uit de L.A. Times leren wij dat de pro
ductie van soyabonen hier ontzaglijk veel gro
ter is dan ooit in Indonesië.
En er zijn meer waarden, in ons geboor
teland die in Amerika ontdekt en tot grote pro
ductie gebracht kunnen worden. Daarom: ver
geet Uw Land van Herkomst niet. Met onze
kennis van de waarden in Indonesië kunnen
wij hier nieuwe arbeidsvelden tot bloei bren
gen. Thans het betrokken bericht:
The soybean continues to gain stature as
the glamour crop of American agriculture.
J Even though the government's latest crop
report shows that production this year topped
all records, prices have been climbing in re
cent weeks and the peak may not yet have been
reached. Prices at Chicago climbed to $2.7 a
bushel last week, which was 32 cents above a
year earlier and more than 50 cents above the
government price support.
Next year, the soybean is expected to be
of even greater help than this year in providing
use for cropland not needed for wheat, corn,
other feed grains and cotton. Farm officials ex
pect next year's harvested acreage to be larger
than this year's record 28,628,000 harvested
acres. Ten years ago, the harvested acreage
was only 14,829,000.
There will be an opportunity to grow more
soybeans next year because the government
will be seeking a smaller acreage of feed
grains, cotton and some types of tobacco. The
soybean can be grown in areas which produce
al I of these crops.
The soybean has become a major export
crop, with markets developing in many parts of
the world. Western Europe and Japan and other
sections of the Far East are major buyers.
Use of soybean meal has soared in recent
years, both in Western Europe and Japan, by
expanding livestock industries. The meal is a
high-protein feed supplement.
