Kay 1, Borrowed 100 from Uncle
Adolph to pay the 50 I borrowed
from the boss, and meet payment on
the car. Got behind a little on
the book payments because I bought
a piece of land in new real estate
development. This land ought to
jump in value. Faid 50 down.
July 15, Somehow I don't miss the
TV-set much. And you can get all
the books you want from the public
library. The thing that hurts is
that Uncle Adolph should be so
hard-boiled with his own nephew.Of
course I told him I'd pay the ,11C
on July 1st., but I can't do the
impossible. Trying to arrange cha
racter loan from the bank. If I
can borrow $250, I can square up
everything and have clear

July 16, Bank says I have no ch?
racter. IJhat a gang of pirates!
Aug. 25. The garage ran is hold
ing tha car for that repair bill,
"'.hat right have they to hold the
car? It doesn't belong to me!
Sept. 11, It wasn't any use. Had
to let the car go. Anyway I'd ra-
rher have that piece of land. They
have given me a month's grace on
that. Real estate people have more
heart after all,
Nov. 1, Well they can have their
old land. Good riddance. If I knew
where to get. 35 to meet the pay
ment on the record player, I"d be
all right. Bought a new car today
on the "pay out of income basis".
Nov. 15, Income stopped. Got the
gate at the office. One has to
look well when it's a job you're
after, so I bought a new suit this
afternoon. Only t 5 down.

PRICES GOING UP
letters from Holland indicate a
steady rise of living costs in Eu-
?.re
rope but prices here in the US a
going up fast too.
The bureau of Labor Statistics
announced recently that consumer
prices jumped 0,2 between Kareh
and Aprilwith food prices set-
tins the pace.
measured with a new index, going
into effect at mid-year, food pri
ces accounted for two-thirds of
the increase but prices were also
higher in transportation, health
and recreation Q
The highest increases were in
golf fees, auto insurance, men's
haircuts and used cars.
The total increase however was
kept down a bit by a 3 f drop in
housing costs, due to lower inte
rest rates and lower insurance
costs.
Hie rise of 0,2 is not very
alarming though, and the wise
buyer can manage to live econo
mically when he keeps his eyes
wide own. These statistics learn
that buying a newT car is relati
vely cheaper than buying a used
car, and that staying at home is
cheaper than recreation out.
