Van december '42 tot augustus
'45 was Dick Nooij, Inf. land-
storm, krijgsgevangene in het
Osaka Camp in Japan. Het
dagboek dat hij toen heeft bij
gehouden en later heeft uit
gewerkt, geeft ons eens te
meer een beeld van die jaren.
Uit dat dagboek hebben wij
slechts twee documenten, één
tekening en één tabel gelicht en
op deze pagina afgedrukt. Voor
wie het ook hebben meege
maakt, zal het een herkenning
zijn, voor de anderen zal het een

Recently most POW are working
conscientiously but there are still
some whose attitude is not what it
should be. It seems to me you are
forgetting just where you are standing.
You fought to protect your colours for
which I honour you as soldiers. But at
the same time our people will not
forget that you shot at our brothers and
sons, killed some of them and wounded
others. To this fact you must pay your
toll very heavily. You fought well but
lost and were taken captives.
It would be all natural and possible
that you would be standing before a
firing squad long before. However by
the August Virtuees and Grace of His
Majesty the Emperor and also
benevolence of our Military Authorities
you are still sound and alive, having
necessary quarters to live in, with
clothing and food properly supplied.
Moreover you are allowed to commu
nicate with your beloved ones. Did this
fact ever occur in your mind?
If not, just stop and think it over. If
there is anyone who does not live up to
our expectations in every respect,
those are the ones who forget the
above facts. We are doing our utmost
to make your life comfortable under
the circumstances. Our treatment is
fair and impartial in regard with our
Military Laws as well as the Inter
national treaties. This fact should be
appreciated although we are not
insisting on it. When you work hard
you may think that you are helping the
enemy, and by slacking down on your
work and disobeying our orders you
may think that you are doing your
country justice.
It may be true but it is certainly not
doing justice to yourselves. Because
we are watching over all POW indivi
dually and keeping daily records in
every respect so that when the time
comes for your return to your country,
we will give the first preferences to the
best ones and who dare not to do their
best will probably never get their
chance to join their loved ones. So it is
only natural that you should do your
tasks conscientiously to acquire your
freedom and to join your loved ones at
the earliest date.
To conclude this statement I should
like to say: to acquire freedom there
are always hardships and sacrifices.
Without these hardships and sacrifices
freedom can never be acquired, bear
this in mind, never to forget and you
would know how to behave in the
future.
Zaterdag 26 en zondag 27 september
a.s. organiseert de Nederlandse Lapi-
daristen Club haar 20ste grote inter
nationale mineralenbeurs in het Neder
lands Congresgebouw te 's-Graven-
hage.
In drie grote zalen zal men daar weer
de meest spectaculaire mineralen,
edelstenen, fossielen, koralen, schel
pen enz. uit de gehele wereld aan
treffen.
Daar dit evenement samenvalt met het
20-jarig bestaan van de vereniging
heeft de NLC gemeend ook iets bij
zonders te moeten brengen. Met
medewerking van het Rijksmuseum
van Geologie en Mineralogie te Leiden
en enkele filatelisten is men er in
geslaagd een unieke tentoonstelling
samen te stellen over GEOLOGIE OP
POSTZEGELS. Ook het Postmuseum
te 's-Gravenhage verleent hieraan haar
medewerking.
Voorts zal uitgebreid door de leden
worden gedemonstreerd wat men bij
hun club kan doen. Wilt u zien hoe met
een diamantzaag eenharde steen door
gezaagd wordt, hoe van zo'n steen een
schitterend sieraad geslepen wordt of
hoe men er bijv. dierenfiguren uit
maakt, hoe een ruw stuk mineraal
geslepen wordt tot een prachtige
edelsteen enz., dan is dit alles te zien
op deze tentoonstelling.
Natuurlijk is er ook weer een deter
minatie-stand, waar iedere bezoeker
zijn mineralen en edelstenen gratis
kan laten determineren en kwalifi
ceren.
Ten slotte: het toegangsbewijs is
tevens een lot voor de gratis loterij en
vanwege het 20-jarig jubileum zijn er
deze keer extra veel prijzen.
Voor dit alles betaalt u slechts f 3,50
per persoon. Jongeren t/m 16 jaar en
65-plussers f 2,00.
De mineralenbeurs is beide dagen
geopend van 10.00-17.00 uur.
In het artikel over de eerste politiële
actie (Moesson no. 1) moet i.p.v.
"defacto" aan het einde van de derde
kolom op pag. 16 staan: de facto. Op
pag. 17, negende zin, eerste kolom
