The Dutch Indonesians, a Bridge between East and West
"Telefoon TONG-TONG"
Krijgt gehoor!
Het eerste resultaat van 'T-T-T" bleek
zeer effectief te zijn. Met slechts drie con
tactpersonen, die ieder een 'sneeuwbal" aan
het rollen brachten, bereikten we genoeg
personen om de causerie-aond, verzorgd
door Tjalie Robinson en de "Amarindus",
op 1 Februari in het International Institute
te Los Angeles, een succes te maken. "Short
notice" voor deze avond noodzaakte ons
deze avond bekend te maken door middel
van "T-T-T".
Jammer dat toen nog niet genoeg gege
vens binnen waren van abonnees, die hier
aan wensen deel te nemen.
Het is niet de bedoeling dat slechts abon
nees in Los Angeles-en Orange counties aan
deze oproep gehoor zullen geven. Overal
in de States, waar onze groep zich gesettled
heeft neemt het aantal TT-abonnees lang
zaam maar zeker toe.

catie systeem, dat boven al het autogeraas
heen zijn doel bereikt!!

The International Institute in Los Angeles, under the able and enthusiastic direction
of Miss Watson, is a well known meeting point for people of all nationalities in California,
who want to know each other better and are eager to present the various values of their
native countries to the American people. Several mornings and evenings each are given
to lectures or demonstrations of dancing, music, cooking, all widely attended and very
popular.
The Dutch-Indonesian group was often invited for demonstrations of various forms
of art and on these occasions always Indonesian and Llawaiian art was brought on the
stage. For the many interested members of the International Institute the true nature of
the Dutch-Indonesians remained obscure and nobody could be found who could give a
lecture about the Dutch-Indonesians, who were not Indonesians, but clearly different from
the Dutch. So Tjalie Robinson was invited for such a lecture, which was given on
February the 1st under the title: "The Dutch-Indonesians, a Bridge between East and
West". In his lecture the editor of this magazine gave a general view on the origin of
the Dutch-Indonesians, as outlined in the historical column in this magazine. A very
difficult task, as in the short time for this lecture many points had to be missed. The
lecture proved to be a success anyway, not in the least by the venture of Hollinda's Ted
Abbink to introduce the "satay-burger" as a bridge from the Indonesian satay to the
American Hamburger.

In this lecture the spotlight was centered on life in Indonesia. In other lectures
Tjalie Robinson will sketch the relation to
the Dutch and the reason why so many
Dutch-Indonesians emigrated to America.
Of course this lecture did not prove we
are a bridge between East and West, but
we can be when we are conscious of the
numerous values of the Indonesian civili
zation and can find unity to bring these
values together.
Dansavond "Thor"

Voor dansliefhebbers een plezierige
avond, voor "Thor" zelf betekent de recette
een belangrijke bijdrage tot groei en bloei.
