SITE: Take a look at your lot. A site lo
cated with reference to the topography of the
countryside may have considerable climate
variation, what plantgrowth is concerned. A
valleybottom may be warmer than the surround
ing countryside if it is cut off from cooling
winds. North facing slopes are usually cooler
than South slopes. Level sites are less costly
to develop than those with a pronounced slope.
YOUR PLAN: There are three basic areas
in the development of any landscape plan:
1. The public area that passers-by see.
2. The living area for family activities. 3. The
service area for tools, garbage cans, etc.
1. The public area: Overplanting is a
common fault here. This area should be direct
and functional and include the development of
a walk, a drive and a well-kept lawn. It does
not improve the appearance to outline the walks
with hedges and plantings.
2. Living area development is guided by
the family hobbies and should provide privacy.
This may include barbecue and dining area and
this should be located close to the kitchen door.
LANDSCAPE PLANTING HINTS: Trees
are the backbone of most landscape plantings.
They should be located carefully in any plan.
They accomplish windbreaks and should pro
vide shade for outdoor living areas and living-
room of the home, particularly during the hot
summer months.
Knowing the size of plants at maturity and
the length of time that it takes them to mature
is essential in homegrounds design.

In discussies met sommige Indo's werd

ken allemaal Engels, dus zijn we Engels!"
Iedere Amerikaan blijft zich (ondanks de taal)
bewust van zijn ethnische afkomst, wat maar
weinig te maken heeft met een nationale af
komst.
Elk argument dat zo voor de hand lig
gend schijnt, onderzoek het. U bespaart Uzelf
grote teleurstellingen voor later.
